HUMAN RESOURCES AND EMPLOYMENT GUIDE 2010

 

 

We are calling all NNHRA Members eager to contribute their knowledge and expertise to Northern Nevada Business Leaders in the February 2010 Edition!

 

 

 

PUBLICATION GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

  • Share the expertise of some of the region’s leading HR professionals belonging to the Northern Nevada Human Resources Association with local business executives, owners, and other organizational leaders, thereby advancing the HR profession. 
  • Provide up-to-date information, advice and tools for large and small companies on key HR management issues, practices, laws and legislation.
  • Increase visibility for our NNHRA members as good corporate citizens while providing an opportunity for HRCI recertification points.   

 

 

SUBMITTING AN ABSTRACT/ARTCILE FOR THE 2010 EDITION

 

  • Use the following form to submit your abstract:   2010 Abstract Form
  • Abstract must be 150 words or less
  • Send your completed form to Pam Durfee at pamelakay25@gmail.com by December 1st, 2009
  • All members who submit abstracts will receive notice from NNHRA by December 7th indicating if their abstract has been selected; members whose abstracts have been selected will receive further instructions on final article submission.

 

 

 

ARTICLE TOPICS

 

We welcome ALL topics that fit the publication Goals and Objectives as stated above.  A few suggested topics are listed below:

  • Legal updates
    • federal and state legislation
    • domestic partnership requirements
  • Staffing/Recruiting
    • Importance of “fit” in an organization’s culture
    • Utilizing social networking to search for talent
  • E-Verify
  • Employee Travel
    • Timekeeping and pay for employee travel (particularly for non-exempt employees)
    • Mileage reimbursement
    • Other considerations: out of state travel, etc.
  • Retention
  • Talent Management
    • Performance Evaluations 
    • Succession Planning
  • Regulatory Training (harassment, safety, etc.) 
  • Document Retention Requirements
  • Workers Compensation and Safety
  • Employee Handbooks 
  • Unemployment Claims Process

Final articles are not to exceed 1,000 words.  A photo of each author must be submitted with the article.  NNBW and NNHRA reserve the right to modify the final article for publication.
