Volunteering with NNHRA
One of the best opportunities to grow professionally is through a volunteer leader position. We encourage our members to explore helping our chapter as a volunteer either on a committee, as a board member, or as an officer. You will likely find that what you gain is greater than what you give, in many ways. Please review our committee descriptions below and then consider submitting your information using the volunteer form at the bottom of the page. Certification
The function of the Certification Committee is to assist NNHRA members in achieving professional certification from the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI). The committee provides information, materials, and facilitates study groups. Certification symbolizes mastery of the Human Resources body of knowledge at the PHR (Professional in Human Resources), SPHR (Senior Professional In Human Resources) or GPHR (Global Professional in Human Resources). For more information on becoming certified go to http://www.hrci.org/ or contact the committee chair. College Relations
The College Relations Committee is dedicated to educating the youth of today to ensure they have the vision and expertise to lead the human resource profession into the future. The committee members serve the future Human Resources professional by partnering with the student chapter to assist with speakers, and offer assistance including promoting student chapter activities while encouraging attendance at NNHRA activities, events and monthly meetings. Serves as a communications link between student chapters and SHRM’s Student Program Manager in disseminating information relative to student programs, scholarships, certification, student conferences, etc. Encourages participation of the student chapter in the HR Games on the state and/or regional level. Annually this committee promotes the $1,000 scholarship that is available to juniors or seniors at the University of Nevada Reno who are majoring in management within the College of Business Administration. The committee determines the criteria and recruits candidates for the scholarship; and recommends the chosen recipient to the board of directors. Community Relations
The Community Relations Committee manages the chapter outreach efforts to help our local community and contribute to solutions that will improve the lives of everyone we serve. The Committee recommends a community service project(s) to be supported by the chapter and invites representatives of local community organization(s) to chapter meetings as appropriate. The committee encourages NNHRA member assistance through flyers or brochures at meetings or via newsletter articles. Members act as liaisons with the local Chamber of Commerce, business organizations, business news writers, and other community groups. Diversity
The NNHRA Diversity Committee is responsible for carrying out the Chapter’s Diversity Initiative efforts. The Committee puts together yearly conferences to provide members with updated information and discuss new developments. This committee is committed to developing diversity initiatives that foster an environment of inclusion, where diversity is integrated and embraced. The diversity conferences began in 2003 and the Chapter received a Pinnacle Award from SHRM for its impact in Northern Nevada. HR All Stars
The HR All Stars team is a sub-committee of the Membership Committee. The HR All Stars program began in 2005 to recognize Human Resource Professionals throughout the city and surrounding areas who have demonstrated the highest level of commitment, dedication, and innovation in the field of Human Resources and the associations and organizations that have significantly supported the work of the HR profession. This event is usually held in November as a special evening event under the guidance of the Membership Committee.
